GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The nation's first state-wide electric bike credit is now available to e-bike buyers with the hope of reducing traffic and reducing pollution.
Governor Polis and the Colorado Energy Office are offering residents up to $450 in savings off their e-bike purchase. The tax credit is part of Colorado's bold climate goals.
Justin Manuppella, an employee at Colorado Electric Bikes off Riverside Parkway, says although the rebate program will bring in more business and give buyers a break, bike shops at least initially will bear some of the cost burden.
"There is a hardship that comes with this rebate in the fact that the $450 comes off of the retail price of the bike upfront. and then I have to essentially pay that until it'll be taken off the taxes next April."
The rebate only applies to UL-certified batteries.
