MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — Montrose County's Child Welfare Department held a public forum Wednesday to inform the community about a new approach to child protective services.

The new approach, called differential response, gives responders the chance to partner with families, provide services, and create a softer approach.

Program Manager for Adult and Child Protective Services Stephanie Holsinger, gives WesternSlopeNow multiple ways to report suspected child abuse.

"We have the Colorado state hotline. The reporting hotline 1-844-CO4KIDS. It's answered 24/7 and they will take the referral. They enter in all of the information and send it to the counties to screen. Anyone that's experienced abuse or concern can also call law enforcement. If they see something happening right away, I would absolutely encourage someone to call 911."
