DOVE CREEK, Colo. (KREX) — Firefighters are preparing to continue a pile burn in the Dawson Draw project area this Tuesday.
Favorable conditions have allowed BLM to burn slash piles 15 miles northeast of Dove Creek on the Tres Rios Field Office BLM-managed lands.
Firefighters have scheduled several days to complete the burn and plan to monitor the area after completion to ensure public safety. According to officials, the project area burn plan outlines the parameters for prescribed burning. It requires the air quality and weather conditions to meet certain prerequisites for firefighters to proceed with the burn.
BLM officials expect smoke to be available at times, most of the smoke will lift and dissipate as the day warms up. Firefighters expect smoke to be visible in the area for several days after each burn is completed as vegetation will continue to smolder.
