GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Mesa County Social Services works year-round to improve the lives of children who wind up in foster care.

Mesa County Social Services tells WesternSlopeNow the county put something called differential response into practice back in 2014.

Division Director for Child Welfare and Adult Protection Joe Kellerby explains to WesternSlopeNow about differential response and how it could play an important role in improving county response to abuse allegations.

"In differential response, we really try to engage the family as one unit," Kellerby says. "We still address abuse and neglect issues, but what we do is really focus on moving forward."

If you or someone you know is a victim of child abuse call the Mesa County Child Protective Services hotline at (970) 242-1211.
