GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — A new maintenance facility for Grand Valley Transit (GVT) broke ground today.
The new facility, located at 2553 Riverside Parkway, will help maintain the city's compressed natural gas bus fleet.
Right now, GVT only has three maintenance bays but the new facility will feature eight bays, a washroom and a parts room.
Regional Transportation Planning Office Director Dana Brosig told WesternSlopeNow how they made the expansion possible.
"The facility is about $7.6 million for the construction. Of that about $6.9 million is federal funds that we received from the Federal Transit Administration. So, we applied for grant funding through their no low emission program, because we're CNG fueled system, we qualify for low emission funding under that grant program."
Construction is expected to start in late June to early July with an estimated completion date expected sometime in 2025.
