GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — In Mesa County's recent assessment, they found that housing insecurity heavily impacts the community.
As of 2022, about one-third of households are experiencing a housing cost burden, spending at least 30% of their income towards housing costs. Over the past few years, housing costs have soared while personal income has not kept up. This has led to increased demand for housing assistance and resources.
The average income in Mesa County is about $84,000 a year, showing that this issue affects not only low-income families but also middle and higher-class households.
Organizations like the Grand Junction Housing Authority and the Catholic Outreach Day Center are providing assistance, but the community needs to come together to find long-term solutions.
