GRADN JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — With the new school year coming up fast, Mesa County Valley School District 51 is planning on holding an open house for the new Grand Junction High School building this Saturday, Aug. 3 starting at 10 a.m.
The $144 million project broke ground June 1, 2022, and will be about 75% complete when classes begin next week.
D51 expects the student population to be over 1,600 -- though the new building will be able to accommodate 1,800.
Chief Operating Officer for D51 Clint Garcia told WesternSlopeNow what the community can expect during the open house.
"The community is going to be excited to see what has been done over the last two years. There's been a lot of anticipation as we've transitioned from the old high school into the new high school. I think what they see, as they walk through the building, is going to be pleasantly received. I think it's going to be good."
The morning of the ribbon cutting will also be the unveiling of the tiger statue.
Parking will be available at the front of the building off of Fifth Street with additional parking if needed off of Hall and Sixth Streets.
