GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — RiversEdge West officials believe a new grant will help improve their educational resources and much more.
The nonprofit announced last week it received a $17,193 grant from the Colorado Watershed Assembly Healthy Rivers Fund. The money goes toward the Grand Valley River Stewardship program whose efforts include riparian health, fostering community stewardship and expanding environmental education initiatives.
"Receiving this grant from the Colorado Watershed Assembly is a significant milestone for us," RiversEdge West Director of Development and Communications Cara Kukuraitis said in a press release. "It will enable us to host numerous volunteer events, mobilize community members and expand our educational outreach, ultimately contributing to healthier rivers and habitats."
In other news, RiversEdge West will host an annual Raft the River float trip on Saturday, Aug. 24. The journey, an educational trip down the Colorado River, will begin at Rimrock Adventures, 927 Highway 340 in Fruita, at 8 a.m., before taking off down the river at 8:30. The group then will get out at the Loma Boat Ramp around 11:30 a.m.
RiversEdge will take around 40 to 50 people on the trip. Participants will be treated to a bunch catered by Cafe Sol.
Tickets cost $130. For more information, click this link.
"Raft the River offers a wonderful blend of relaxation and education," RiversEdge West Education and Outreach Coordinator Nicole Cook said. "Not only do participants get to enjoy the stunning scenery of the Colorado River, but they also learn about our critical restoration projects and contribute to a healthier river ecosystem."
