City of GJ seeking artwork for 24 1/2 and F 1/2 roundabout

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – The City of Grand Junction is calling on artists to build creative public art for the traffic roundabout at 24 1/2 and F 1/2 roads.

According to the city's press release, the Commission on Arts and Culture is seeking artwork that is "fresh and modern, abstract and colorful, vibrant and unique and that includes creative versions of landscapes and flora." The deadline to submit proposals is Friday, Nov. 1. For more information about submitting a proposal, click this link.

The City of Grand Junction said in the release that artists have a three-month process to create their proposals. The selection panel will then look through each one. The panel includes representatives from the Engineering and Transportation Department and the Commission on Arts and Culture.

The project's funding comes from the city's 1 percent for the Arts Program. This program provides opportunities for residents and visitors to see artwork by facilitating the acquisition and display of art in public spaces. The program is funded by budgeting 1 percent for public art from certain capital improvement projects, according to the city.

Artists interested in the project can send their letter of interest, resume, proposal and images of representative work to Arts and Culture/Recreation Coordinator Haley Van Camp at haley.vancamp@gjcity.org.
