MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - On Wednesday morning, a traffic violation led to Mesa County deputies allegedly discovering fentanyl pills and heroin.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred on Interstate 70 near Fruita. Upon a consent search of the vehicle, deputies found around 50,000 small pills consistent with fentanyl and 3 lbs. of believed heroin.

California resident Carlos Fernandez-Marquez, 35, was taken into custody and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. He was charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute, two counts of special circumstances for importing drugs into Colorado and a federal immigration violation.
The estimated street value of the fentanyl is around $150,000-$500,000 while the heroin is estimated to be about $35,000.
