Food Bank of the Rockies announces competition for local businesses

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – Food Bank of the Rockies Western Slope is launching a competition aimed at businesses to support hunger relief efforts.

The food bank said in a press release the Corporate Challenge, beginning on Sept. 1, asks for businesses to help battle those facing hunger issues.

The two-month competition allows participants to earn points by:

  • Creating a company-wide virtual food drive
  • Raising donations
  • Logging volunteer hours at the Western Slope Etkin Family Distribution Center or one of the food distributions
  • Posting on social media about participating in the challenge
  • Attending the kick-off party at Food Bank of the Rockies on Sept. 19
  • Or a combination of all the above

“We’re really excited to kick off this new challenge and work alongside incredible partners across our community to provide nutritious and meaningful food to kids, families and individuals,” Gabriela Garayar, Food Bank of the Rockies Western Slope senior development manager, said in a press release. “At the end of the competition, the ultimate victory is in the collective effort to alleviate food insecurity across the Western Slope.”

The registration deadline for the Corporate Challenge is Sept. 13. Companies or groups interested in the competition can contact the food bank at wsvolunteer@foodbankrockies.org or 970-438-4214.
