MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — The Montrose County Sheriff's Office recently announced it has made an arrest in connection with the Bucktail Fire, which burned over 7,000 acres.
West End resident Brent Garber, 63, is accused of starting the wildfire. He's charged with second-degree arson, fourth-degree arson and second-degree criminal trespass.
Montrose County Sheriff Gene Lillard told WesternSlopeNow the fire was man-made. He declined to say whether the blaze was done accidentally or purposely.
The fire started on private property next to Bureau of Land Management land, Lillard said.
The wildfire started on Aug. 1, taking nearly 200 fire personnel to contain the blaze. Lillard said the wildfire is now "completely out."
Lillard said the wildfire "could have been worse" but it will leave a "lasting scar" for years to come.
