GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – VA Western Colorado Health Care System announced Tuesday it housed 74 displaced veterans this fiscal year - and 100% of them have not returned to homelessness.

Additionally, the local VA said in a press release it has 89 unsheltered vets who have been engaged to ensure they have access to housing and other needed services.

Also, this year the VA housed nationwide over 43,000 veterans, surpassing its goal of housing 41,000 a month earlier than expected.

“No person who has served this country should ever have to experience homelessness,” VA Secretary Denis McDonough said in the release. “As a result of this year’s efforts, more than 43,000 formerly homeless veterans now have access to the homes that they deserve. And make no mistake: we won’t rest until every veteran has a safe, stable, accessible and affordable home to call their own.”
