GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — MarillacHealth will expand services to address mental health and substance use thanks to receiving funds from a federal agency.

The nonprofit announced last week it was awarded $600,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration as part of a decision to give $240 million to over 400 community health centers.

MarillacHealth will use the funds to "dramatically expand" its behavioral health care capacity, the nonprofit said in a press release. It will now serve around 450 new mental health patients and 200 new substance abuse patients for the next two years throughout its seven clinic locations.

“This is a huge win for the patients we care for in Mesa, Montrose and the surrounding counties we serve,” Elise Rediger, MarillacHealth behavioral health director, said in the release. “This expansion means we can hire more clinicians to care for more people in need of these services, for which there is already a significant demand.”

The health center said in the release the funds will also help increase its ability to screen, treat and support the recovery of someone impacted by substance use.
