FRUITA, Colo. (KREX) - Artists from all over the country have gathered recently to capture the beauty of the Western Slope.
The Colorado National Monument Associations Eighth Annual Plein Air Art Event began Sunday and ends Thursday. Twenty artists are capturing the beauty of the Colorado National Monument, McInnis National Conservation Area and the Grand Mesa, CNMA said in a press release.
"This is an opportunity for artists to create in the inspiring outdoors and a chance for the public to see art come to life in real time," the organization said in a press release.
Plein air is the practice of painting landscapes outdoors.
The artists' work will then be on display at the end of the week. CNMA is hosting a free opening night exhibit from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the Carlson Vineyards tasting room, 545 Main St. in Grand Junction. The exhibit will remain open until Sunday. All art sales will benefit the Colorado National Monument.
CNMA said in the release residents can meet with the 20 artists and learn about their inspiration, techniques and the stories behind their works.
