MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - "Significant progress" in repairing the U.S. Highway 50 middle bridge, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced Friday.
Because of this progress, the bridge will be open all day to single-lane traffic - including heavier vehicles like semi-trucks, charter buses and motorhomes - starting Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Construction activities will continue overnight from 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. During those hours, travelers can expect longer wait times, according to CDOT. Vehicles will be released one at a time over the bridge while the temporary work deck is removed from below the structure.
The remaining construction will prep the bridge for two-way traffic ahead of the winter.
According to CDOT, "Opening the bridge to all vehicles will bring an end to pilot car operations on County Road 26. This road will remain open for travel and can continue to be used as a local alternate route as long as weather conditions allow."
