GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - On Monday, Gov. Jared Polis stopped in Grand Junction where he toured new housing options, saw Grand Junction High and Colorado Mesa renovations and celebrated Mesa View's Blue Ribbon School award.
The governor's first stop was to The Terminal, a housing development that will consist of 106 housing units, as well as an art gallery and community space.
“In Colorado, we are committed to expanding housing opportunities at every budget level. The residences at The Terminal will provide more than 100 homes for people in Grand Junction and strengthen our community,” Polis said in a press release.
He then visited the new Grand Junction High School. Construction began in 2022 before completion this fall. The school contains a new media room, expanded sports facilities and a 1,500-capacity auditorium.
Polis later toured CMU's Asteria Theater. The building has 860 seats and boasts the largest capacity between Denver and Salt Lake City.
“The arts are an important part of education and culture, and the new Asteria Theater is an exciting resource for students at Colorado Mesa University. Our state was proud to support this venue, and I look forward to seeing a performance here one day,” Polis said in the release.
The governor ended the day by stopping by Mesa View Elementary to celebrate its National Blue Ribbon Award. The award is given to schools for educational excellence and student success.
“Colorado is a leader in providing a high-quality education that helps students succeed and learn the skills needed to thrive. I was thrilled to visit Mesa View Elementary School, one of four schools in Colorado recognized with this prestigious award, and the only school in western Colorado. This award is a celebration of Mesa View’s innovation, achievement, and their ability to ensure students succeed,” Polis said in the release.
