GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — For years, the Veterans Art Center has played a role in the lives of those who served our country here in the Grand Valley. Now the center is calling for the community's help.
The roof is deteriorating, creating leaks.
The Art Center operates as a nonprofit organization and is not associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs. It receives grants to cover expenses, but those expenses pale in comparison to the price tag on the repairs needed to fix the roof.
"They have to start with the OSB and completely replace the roof bed and then put the tapes," said founder and President of the Veterans Art Center Wendy Hoffman. "So, they were just going to be taping the seams and not coating the whole thing with the fabric. It'll all be like a 10-year warranty on the roof, but the estimate was for $41,000."
