GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Construction is finally underway at KAI Dispensary, located at 914 South Ave. in Grand Junction. Owner Joey Coleman said they broke ground in July after several pre-construction delays, mainly due to planning and revisions with the city.
KAI Dispensary is one of three cannabis stores yet to open in the area and the only one among the city’s 10 lottery license winners building its location from the ground up. Coleman hopes to open in January, envisioning a unique space that he believes will redefine the cannabis experience in Grand Junction.
“We’re one of the few building from the ground up—I think we’re the only one,” Coleman said. “We never planned to be the first to open, but we knew we’d be able to design a space specifically for this project. That’s a benefit for us, instead of coming into a small strip mall space that you have to work around. We built this for the customer experience.”
While KAI prepares for its opening, the other two shops are set to open soon. Canna Care on Fisher Avenue is planning a mid-November grand opening, while Golden Rookie on Grand Avenue aims to open on Nov. 22. Meanwhile, The Buzz, located on North 3rd St., has already opened.
