DENVER (KDVR) — The Boulder Police Department was informed Wednesday of a possible attempted kidnapping that allegedly happened on Monday.

According to police, an 11-year-old girl was walking to school at about 8:30 a.m. on Monday when an "unknown man" started following her while riding a bicycle. She said that as she walked onto 26th Street between Meadow Avenue and Norwood Avenue, the man grabbed her shoulder.

The area is near Centennial Middle School. Police said the child grabbed a tree branch and hit the man, causing him to let go. The child then ran to school.

Later, the child told her mother about the incident. The mother called police on Oct. 30.

Boulder police said the man was wearing all black with a mask and circular sunglasses with colored lenses. The agency said he "may have been speaking Spanish."

The agency will increase patrols where this incident happened but is asking anyone with information about the suspected kidnapper's identity or the crime to contact Detective Taylor Hickam at HickamT@bouldercolorado.gov or by calling 303-441-1936 and reference case 24-11453.

Additionally, anyone with possible video or photo evidence can upload it online here.
