FRUITA, Colo. (KREX) - A crash involving two vehicles happened in Fruita intersection of East Aspen Avenue and Pine Street. But one of the cars crashed into a home.
Daniel McCutchen, one of two occupants in the home when crashed occurred states, “I was actually still sleeping. I have to work in the evening, so I was actually sleeping. My wife was just getting ready to get up and go to her friend's house…”
Corrine McCutchen, Daniel's wife, states “I heard, like, some awful screeching sounds and like, bangs and stuff. And I got up and went to the hallway and saw a car sticking in the front door.”
Daniel states, “But after that, we just told my wife to call 911, and then from there.”
A Mercury Sedan crashed into the house a little before noon. Law officials say the officers arrived on scene and found multiple injured parties, with several people taken to the hospital.
Nick Peck, lieutenant for the Fruita Police Department, states, “We believe that one vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign, and we're still looking to see if speed, distracted driving or medical issue was perhaps the cause of the accident.”
Daniel and Corrine on the other hand reported no injuries but a damaged house.
Corrine states, “I've been worried about it before living on the corner and stuff, because it's not inside of our house. But like, it's hit, like the fence and other stuff. Our fence on the side got hit last year, the year before.”
Corrine tells WesternSlopeNow she and her husband Daniel will be cleaning up the damage and then calling the owners to get it fixed.
Peck states, “So we'll continue to look for witnesses to the accident. Continue with the investigation. We'll be looking at possible charges for the driver involved. And then we've also contacted the American Red Cross for the family to get them some assistance.”
