MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Montrose just finalized a budget of $111 million to use throughout 2025.

City of Montrose PIO William Woody tells WesternSlopeNow the budgeting process takes roughly half a year, starting with meetings in the summer and publishing citizen surveys.

He says infrastructure upgrades have been the primary public suggestion for the last couple years, and that theme continues. In 2025, the city will spend $5.2 million on major road improvements.

Montrose Deputy City Manager Ann Morgenthaler says in addition to the $5 million, a roundabout worth $3.5 million will go into place at the intersection of Woodgate and East Oak Grove.

$200,000 will also go to revamping Demoret Park in downtown Montrose and $3 million will go to a West Main Street revitalization project.

$11 million of the budget is to be set aside for a rainy day, though the city will see some additional funding through the lodging tax increase that passed on the 2024 ballot. Morgenthaler says those revenues will go towards affordable housings and transportation.

The remaining $100 million will also pay for city staffing and enterprise funds, which includes water, sewer and wastewater treatment plants as well as the golf course and pavilion.

Also not designated in the budget is any funds for the new veteran's memorial, though the city and county have promised to help the Veterans Memorial Coalition break ground in 2025.
