MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - On Thursday, the Board of Education for School District 51 discussed about the new boundary changes coming to the new school year.

On Friday WesternSlopeNow had a chance to sit down with District 51 superintendent Dr. Brian Hill to discuss what the next moves are for the district. He tells WesternSlopeNow that the students from Scenic Elementary will be going to Broadway Or Windgate. While Nisley Students will be going to Orchard Avenue or Fruitvale. And Clifton students will go to either Chatfield Rocky Elementary or Taylor Elementary.

During the last school board meeting, parents spoke about the concern regarding overcrowding in schools. Hill tells WesternSlopeNow that he assures that the classrooms are not going to be packed.

Hill states, “We are only utilizing 65% of our seats at the elementary level, so a lot of our buildings are underutilized, and so there's space in there to accommodate more students, and so depending on each of the individual schools and how many students currently were in those schools, and then how much room was in the surrounding schools, that determined how many students would be transferring there for next year through the boundary changes.”

Dr. Hill also mentions that the board already decided to move forward with the new boundary changes as Thursday afternoon. He also talks about how the district will update their website where you can go in and type your address to see where your child can attend.

The district will be sending letters soon to the families who were affected by the closures.
