GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - It's beginning to look a lot like you guessed it … Christmas.
Homewardbound, Mutual Aid, La Plaza and United Way came together Tuesday morning to celebrate the joy of the holidays.
Stephania Vasonec, owner and director of Mutual Aid Partners, states, “That it is very intentional for us to be able to create that space and so especially during the holidays, during Christmas, during Hanukkah, during Kwanzaa, there's so many different holidays that community members are celebrating. And so we want to create a space where everybody feels like they belong."
With the collaboration of La Plaza there was a toy drive for members of the community and WesternSlopeNow spoke with Iriana Medina who is the executive director. She said there were 300 toys donated and then La Plaza brought in 300 more.
Medina states, “This just talks about what people have in their hearts or within themselves, you know, just thinking beyond of what their needs are, covering their own needs, just spreading a little bit when you have a little extra why not sharing with others that.”
Even some of the local pets got to sit next to the jolly man in the red suit and get a present of their own.
"We want to bring everybody together to just realize that we are all sharing in a human experience, and that any of us can be in this position, and so just come out and build community with us," Vasonec said.
Medina states, “Basically sharing and coming together and spreading what we have in our hearts, which from our hearts, anything can come, but love is what comes the most.”
