GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Mesa County announced mid-summer 2024 it was restructuring its animal services division, separating the shelter from enforcement.
The enforcement side has now been handed off to the Grand Junction Police Department, which will now enforce animal control within city limits.
Since the reconstruction, a vehicle was purchased and outfitted for the GJPD to be used as an animal control vehicle.
Civilian Manager Amber Peck talked about the goal behind the GJPD Animal Control Services.
"I would say, the number one priority for the Grand Junction Police Department Animal Control Services would be, that they would want to provide top-notch customer service to the citizens of the city and then also to reunite the animals with their owners."
GJPD Animal Control will begin service Jan. 1.
