GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - The Grand Junction Fire Department Wildland Team will assist with the ongoing wildfires in California, GJFD announced Friday.
The four-person crew and a Type 3 Wildland Engine will leave Grand Junction at 7 a.m., Saturday. The crew will join a five-engine strike team consisting of units from nearby states.
The team will report to Beaumont, California, where the crews will learn their deployment orders and start operations to help with fire suppression and containment, GJFD said.
“The Grand Junction Fire Department is proud to contribute to the firefighting efforts in California,” interim Fire Chief Gus Hendricks said in a press release. “This deployment not only allows us to assist communities in need but also provides invaluable experience and knowledge that our team can bring back to benefit the Grand Junction community.”
