GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - The man, who barricaded himself in an apartment complex before allegedly setting fire to it on New Year's Day, had more charges added to the incident.
The suspect, 44-year-old Justin Vicino, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree arson, criminal mischief, menacing, third-degree assault and violation of a protection order.
Vicino was charged Friday after he was released from the hospital after injuries he suffered from the New Year's incident. After he allegedly lit a fire in the apartment, the man jumped out of the second-floor balcony where he was taken into custody by police.
Vicino was originally arrested on multiple outstanding warrants and for violating a protection order.
The incident occurred at the Grand Manor Apartments, 2828 Orchard Ave. A female resident reported that a known male suspect - in violation of a restraining order - forcibly entered her second-floor apartment and assaulted another man. During the scuffle, Vicino allegedly picked up a knife from inside the residence which resulted in the man and woman fleeing from the building.
During the Grand Junction Police Department's investigation, law enforcement determined Vicino intentionally set the apartment fire which resulted in "significant damage" and endangered neighbors.
Vicino was taken and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility.
GJPD said this was an isolated incident.
