GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Mesa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) recently was awarded funding from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation as part of their "Persons Who Wander" grant program.

The program awarded a total of $89,000 to nine different law enforcement agencies across Colorado.

The county is set to get $17,775 from the program.

Cpt. Curtis Brammer with the MCSO talked about what the money will be used for and who it could help.

"The goal is to identify, to locate and safely recover individuals who are prone to wandering whether that's Alzheimer's, autism, Down syndrome, any other medical condition or debilitating condition that would put somebody at risk by wandering away from their caregiver."

MCSO will be partnering with a company called Angel Sense that offers an enhanced GPS tracking device that aids in the location and recovery of missing and wandering individuals.

The devices come in the form of a fob or watch.

The department is looking to purchase 22 of these devices sometime in the next several months.
