GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Grand Junction plans to revamp the city's parking system this February.

Over the next year, the city plans to remove meters, install kiosks in parking lots and reduce the number of meters to one per every two parking spaces to enhance the way downtown looks.

Creating more convenient parking solutions will help improve the customer experience and the tiered increases will encourage more utilization and availability of parking spots for customers closer to downtown businesses.

Brandon Stam, Grand Junction partnership director

The rate increases are a result of a thorough analysis of operational expensees, the need for infrastructure improvement, and a comparison with rates in similar cities. These adjustments are not only focused on current parking needs in the downtown area but consider the anticipated future demands on our parking system.

Jay Valentine, Grand Junction general services director

Parking meters will be more expensive closer to downtown, according to the city.
