MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - Colorado Parks and Wildlife biologists confirmed Thursday that a wolf transferred from British Columbia to here died in Wyoming over the weekend.

CPW said the mortality happened in north-central Wyoming. The agency also said the gray wolf - classified as 2505-BC - came from an area in British Columbia where there isn't an overlap between wolves and livestock.

Wolves are well-known to trek long distances to find food or mates which includes going to other states, CPW said.

The gray wolf was discovered while the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in Wyoming was conducting livestock depredation mitigation after multiple livestock were lost.

CPW said it doesn't comment on wildlife movements, operations or regulations in other states and questions should be directed toward Wildlife Services.
