DENVER (KDVR) — Your request has been denied.

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles kept busy in 2023 by reviewing thousands of personalized license plate applications. Last year, 60,000 applications were approved, doubling the amount from 2022.

However, every year, the DMV has to deny thousands of foul, lewd and rude requests. Some requests allude to curse words and others are slang terms

In 2023, the Colorado DMV said it rejected over 1,000 configurations. Many of the rejected terms were added to the DMV's offensive-omit list. This allows the DMV to reject future lewd requests automatically.

According to the Colorado DMV, the offensive and omit list has been built up over the years from recommendations from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and known offensive words and terms.

FOX31 went through the extensive list of rejections and found some of the most bizarre requests:

  • 777Z777
  • ADDICTD
  • B4LLER
  • BOLLCKS
  • DANK
  • ELITEAF
  • HE11BOY
  • K1LLER
  • OBSESSD
  • OMGWTF
  • SASSYAF
  • STDMUFN
  • VEGANAF

Some plates on the list were automatically rejected if they were already issued, reserved for auction or were already on the offensive-omit list.

Anyone can appeal their personalized plate decision through the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Hearings Division.

If you would like to submit for a personalized plate, it will cost an additional $60 on top of regular fees. The Colorado DMV allows drivers to personalize many of the state's 218 plates. The renewal fee will be between $25-$75, just make sure your request is appropriate.
