GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — The Garfield County Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance prohibiting the sale, use and possession of fireworks in unincorporated Garfield County due to weather conditions that pose a threat of fire.
The ordinance comes into effect April 18 and remains until one year after. There is an exemption according to state law on May 31 through July 5, during which counties must show “competent evidence of high fire danger” to prohibit firework use.
This ordinance does not cover municipalities that make their own rules regarding whether fireworks are prohibited. Glenwood Springs has a separate ordinance regarding fireworks. Fireworks are allowed within city limits as long as they don't leave the ground.
