GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The parent company of City Market, Kroger, will not be merging with Albertsons. At least not for anytime soon, the proposed merger has been put on hold until a trial challenging the merger is held later this year.
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser filed a lawsuit to block the proposed merger back in February. WesternSlopeNow interviewed the attorney general last week and here's what weiser had to say:
"What I heard then is what I heard a year ago, people are really concerned. We are challenging this in court and the hearing will be in August for us to stop this merger, which we know is going to lead consumers to fewer choices."
Weiser met with House Rep. Matt Soper to gain a better understanding of how this will impact the western slope, including local producers and consumers.
