GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — A new contract has been signed between Mesa County and the Town of Collbran.
The contract states Mesa County will provide law enforcement services to the municipality for the remainder of this year and for 2025.
Mesa County collaborated with Collbran about law enforcement services over the past 10 months. During that time, Mesa County and Collbran have been involved in ongoing discussions on how to provide law enforcement to the remote mountain town.
Two Mesa County Sheriff's deputies have been working the area and will continue to work the area as a result of this contract.
Collbran has paid $150,000 for Mesa County to provide its services for the remainder of this year and $350,000 for coverage into next year.
Mesa County Sheriff Todd Rowell gave WesternSlopeNow information about the discussions with Collbran and how their relationship with the town will continue.
"Collbran is not new to us, we've helped Collbran out. And Collbran, when they had a marshal they helped us out. So, we've worked in Collbran a lot. We just haven't had the sole responsibility for their law enforcement services. So, the deputies won't live up there. They might. Many deputies live all over this county. Some of them live up on the Mesa, some of them live up on Glade Park, our deputies are scattered out. So, working up there isn't going to be dependent on living up there. They might but it'll just be by chance."
