MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — Mesa County has been using a method developed by the Army Corps of Engineers to help determine which roads meet county standards.

The procedure, called a pavement condition index, is done by a scanner that can examine the roads looking for any cracks and divots.

County officials found three roads that do not meet standards:

  • South Broadway from CO Highway 340 to 20 Road in the Redlands
  • E Road From 23 Road to Vista Grande Road in the Redlands
  • 12 Road from U.S. Highway 6 to O Road in Loma

Mesa County Construction Group Manager Josh Springer says, "The project came in just under a $1 million to do about 3 1/2 miles of overlay. That is including milling and shouldering."

Funding will partially come from the road and bridges budget and the engineering and capital improvement projects budget.

The project was awarded to contractor Elam Construction, who will begin work Monday Sept. 30 through Friday Oct. 4.

Drivers should expect slight delays due to single-lane closures until the project's completion.
