MOAB, Utah, (KREX) - Two Durango residents are accused of trespassing, disrupting and stealing from a Canyonlands National Park historic site.
According to the U.S. Justice Department, Roxanne McKnight, 39, and Dusty Spencer, 43, were charged with three misdemeanors Monday relating to the incident on March 23.
McKnight and Spencer allegedly entered a fenced-off area of the Cave Springs Cowboy Camp where they handled and stole numerous historic artifacts. The camp was protected by fencing and "clear warnings" denying visitors entry, the press release said.
They are charged with theft of government property of less than $1,000, possessing or distributing cultural or archaeological resources and walking on or entering archaeological or cultural resources.
Spencer and McKnight will appear Friday in the U.S. District Court in Moab.
The case is being investigated by the National Park Service.
