MONTROSE COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - The National Park Service announced Monday that new permit and fee increases will begin January 2025 at two area parks.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park will require a permit for day and overnight use on the South Rim wilderness routes - Warner, Gunnison and Tomichi - between May and October. The fee will cost $6 plus another $4 per person per permit, according to NPS.
Curecanti National Recreation Area campsite at East Elk Creek will now have a nightly fee of $120. The Red Creek campsite's nightly fee will be $60.
NPS said in a press release that 80% of fees collected will remain at the parks to fund projects. The other 20% will be used "agency wide."
