GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) - For the second time this year, a staff member was recently terminated at Little Mavericks Learning Center after an alleged child abuse incident.
In a letter addressed to parents that was obtained by WesternSlopeNow, Little Mavericks Board Chair Michelle Quinn said staff learned on Nov. 26 of alleged abuse in a 4-year-old classroom.
After the Grand Junction Police Department arrived at Little Mavericks and the center reviewed the evidence, the teacher was "terminated, effective immediately," Quinn said in the letter.
"As we have promised, we have zero tolerance for any form of abuse. The Board will convene an emergency meeting to determine immediate next steps and the center's future," the letter read.
WesternSlopeNow reached out to both the GJPD and Colorado Mesa University, which oversees the child care center, for comment but they both declined to go into further detail.
“Since this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment on the matter. The Little Mavericks Learning Center is cooperating fully with the Grand Junction Police Department’s investigation," CMU spokesperson Kelsey Coleman said in a statement provided to WesternSlopeNow.
GJPD Public Information Officer Kira Rushton told WesternSlopeNow that officers did respond to reports of child abuse around that area but did not confirm it was at Little Mavericks. She added the incident is currently under investigation.
Back in April, a staff member and supervisor were terminated at the Little Mavericks Learning Center due to abuse allegations. The center also temporarily closed due to the incident.
